Summary:
Under the direction of the Unit Director, the Day Camp Counselor will serve as a leader and counselor to campers and participates in the planning and implementation of the day camp programming, taking responsibility for each child's safety and for the overall quality of his/her camp experience.
Essential Functions:
Understands and follows state licensing and requirements listed in DCF 252.
Assures that all campers are being safe while having fun at the same time.
Ensures camp counselors are supervising campers at all times.
Serves as a positive role model for all campers.
Plans and organizes camp activities with both small and large groups.
Participates in all camp activities.
Maintains a clean, organized and safe camp atmosphere.
Maintains a high degree of communication with staff, campers, and parents.
Attends 40 hours of mandatory pre-camp orientation.
Recognizes and solves individual and group conflicts effectively.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND
Qualifications:
Minimum age 17, with High School Diploma or equivalent Ability to relate to diverse groups of people.
Ability to interact with children at their cognitive level.
Possess strong organizational skills.
Current CPR PRO/First Aid/ Shaken Baby is preferred; required within 30 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be capable of carrying loads of up to 50 pounds.
Work at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time 1-2 times a week on average.
Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
Perform essential program support to camp activities and programs which may include, but not limited to the following activities:
semi - reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces underground, overhead, and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs, and lying on stomach and/or back.
Ability to perform tasks outdoor in different climate.
